About the position

The Gas Controller I/II position at Berkshire Hathaway Energy Company involves operating the transmission system to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable gas supply, transportation, and delivery. The role requires monitoring and controlling pipeline systems to meet customer gas flow requirements while adhering to regulatory standards. The position demands effective communication and coordination with field operations and requires the ability to manage operational balancing agreements and respond to fluctuating conditions in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Operate the transmission system to meet daily supply, transportation, and delivery requirements.
• Monitor and control the pipeline systems via data acquisition systems (SCADA) and telephone communications.
• Monitor pressures, line pack, receipts, and deliveries to maximize throughput efficiency.
• Determine system requirements and changes to mainline pressures and volumes for customer delivery.
• Manage operational balancing agreements (OBA) on a daily and monthly basis.
• Communicate with field operations personnel regarding production losses, gas quality issues, and outages.
• Maintain a shift events log and coordinate pipeline/horsepower outages using real-time models.
• Perform Operations Communications Center duties as assigned and provide vacation coverage.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED or equivalent education.
• Zero to two years of related experience for Gas Controller I; two to four years for Gas Controller II.
• Two years of operations experience desirable, particularly with Northern Natural Gas compressor stations or gas supply operations.
• Effective PC skills, proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Access.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
