About the position

The Gas Controller I position at BHE GT&S involves managing daily natural gas operations to ensure the pipeline system meets physical requirements. The role requires monitoring and controlling gas facilities using SCADA systems, analyzing pipeline data, and implementing operational changes to maintain efficiency and reliability in gas operations.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the management of the daily natural gas operations to meet the overall physical requirements of the pipeline system.
  • Utilize the SCADA system to monitor and control gas facilities by operating remote control valves, regulators, and compressors, ensuring pipeline pressures stay within Maximum Allowable Operating Pressures (MAOP).
  • Analyze transmission pipeline system and recommend operational changes in anticipation of changing requirements.
  • Analyze gas control data and respond to SCADA alarms.
  • Adjust gas volumes and pressures to meet market requirements by considering forecasts and supply portfolios and storage plans.
  • Assist in the implementation of the daily operating plan to support the economic, efficient, and reliable operations of the gas system.
  • Develop a professional working relationship with field personnel, pipeline contacts, and other departments that interact with Gas Control.
  • Comply with all government regulations for Control Room and Alarm Management.

Requirements

  • 0 plus years combined natural gas, analytical, utility, process operation/control (field, paper, water, chemical, etc.) or related experience.
  • Basic knowledge of company operations, pipeline network, and facilities (compressor stations, storage pools, production systems, etc.) is preferred.
  • Ability to learn and retain knowledge of natural gas safety and emergency plans/procedures.
  • Ability to learn and retain knowledge of Control Room Management (CRM) regulations and procedures.
  • Ability to learn and retain basic FERC regulations and other regulatory requirements, as needed.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data, detect errors, and recommend changes.
  • Basic understanding of operation of computerized equipment and standard office equipment.
  • Ability to perform basic math: to add, subtract, multiply and divide and to perform the four operations with like or common decimal fractions.
  • Ability to be able to clearly document data when completing shift turnover records.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing internally and externally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain rapport, as needed.
  • Ability to be able to distinguish between colors.
  • Ability to manage work and perform varied tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to remain focused and to respond competently under pressure to changing pipeline conditions.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associate degree in Engineering Technology is preferred, but relevant work experience may be used in lieu of a degree.
