About the position

The Gas Operations Manager Trainee at Waste Management is designed to equip individuals with the necessary skills to manage landfill gas collection and control system (GCCS) operations. This role involves completing a comprehensive Individual Development Plan (IDP) that covers capital budget planning, regulatory compliance, and oversight of gas field technicians. The position requires a strong engineering background and an understanding of relevant regulations, with a focus on implementing training programs and ensuring operational excellence in GCCS management.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize and manage capital projects for GCCS design, construction, and operations.
  • Work toward predetermined goals related to environmental protection and landfill gas management.
  • Participate in planning and engineering design strategy for operating and capital budgets for GCCS.
  • Direct and manage internal and external resources for asset development and compliance monitoring.
  • Organize communications with management regarding development projects and compliance programs.
  • Learn to communicate with stakeholders to discuss program objectives and optimize GCCS operations.
  • Support regulatory compliance and resolve issues related to LFG/GCCS operations.
  • Develop interpersonal skills for leadership and team management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or HS Diploma/GED with four years of relevant experience.
  • Five years of relevant work experience in engineering or construction specializing in GCCS design and operations.
  • Valid and unrestricted driver's license.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven technical project management skills.
  • Motivated toward career growth and learning.
  • Exceptional communication and reporting skills under pressure.
  • Knowledge of GCCS design, construction, and operations.
  • Understanding of state and federal regulations impacting GCCS.
  • Ability to optimize GCCS performance and troubleshoot equipment remotely.
  • Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Excellent mechanical and technical skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) pipe fusion certification.
  • Relevant industry or state certifications (e.g., SWANA, NWRA).
  • Basic knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and instrumentation.
