About the position

The Gas Engineering position is responsible for providing engineering and technical support for the design of gas transmission assets across the PG&E system. This role involves reviewing and approving pipeline project designs to ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards, while also ensuring that projects are constructible. The position is hybrid, requiring both remote work and in-person office attendance based on business needs, with mandatory office work likely required 1-3 days a week and potential field visits depending on project requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares the design, illustration, revision, and presentation of technical drawings, reports, layouts, schematics, and specifications.
  • Oversees the engineering designs and retrofits to existing gas transmission pipelines and facilities to enable the pipelines to be inspected using ILI tools which will verify pipeline integrity.
  • Provides technical support for various PG&E departments, including Engineering, Planning, M&C, Electric Operations, Power Generation, Asset Strategy, System Protection, Law, Standards and ATS.
  • Performs routine engineering analysis and performs lead role in determining scope, schedule, budget and resources needed.
  • Collaborates with team or peers to work on issues, projects or activities.
  • Provides code interpretations and design guidance consistent with nationally recognized codes and standards.
  • Prepares Civil/Structural Analysis and Design calculation reports for Pipe Support, Foundations, Pipe-Stress Analyses, etc. using applicable design codes and standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering - Civil or job-related discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • 3 years of experience in engineering, job-related.
  • Experience in engineering, Civil and Structural, design emphasis.
  • Experience with analysis and design of steel and concrete structures per ACI, AISC and CBC Standards.
  • Experience with numerical modeling of pipe stress analyses models and structural analysis models.
  • EIT-Engineer-In-Training Certificate, California.

Nice-to-haves

  • PE-Professional Engineer Civil license.
  • Ability to obtain California Professional Engineer License (Civil) within a year.
  • Familiarity with PHMSA CFR 49 subpart 192.
