About The Position

The Gas Service Technician Trainee position is an entry-level role focused on training individuals in the essential tasks of connecting and disconnecting gas services, installing and removing meters and regulators, and ensuring customer satisfaction through effective communication. The trainee will learn to perform various duties under the supervision of qualified technicians while adhering to safety and operational guidelines.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D equivalency.
  • Certified in CPR and First Aid.
  • Ability to communicate with customers and other departments.
  • Basic understanding of Company maps and Procedures Manual, work orders, staking sheets, NFPA safety codes, OSHA safety codes, and any type of Company forms related to work being performed.
  • Knowledge of Company's service area and distribution system, system construction, and familiarity with assigned work area.
  • Basic understanding of Company's tariff policies, rules, regulations, and procedures.
  • Basic skills in the operations and functions of computers including Windows applications, Excel, Word, Outlook, and internet applications.
  • Ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

  • Train in connects and disconnects of service, installing and removing meters and/or regulators.
  • Train in gas turn on and turn off, including stand-up meter leak test and check and adjust house regulators.
  • Assist in the restoration of outages.
  • Communicate with customers to assess problems with service.
  • Assist in balancing and coordination of pressure problems during peak demand periods.
  • Perform call out duties under the direct supervision of an Operator Qualified Service Technician.
  • Load meters/regulators and other materials onto truck at warehouse.
  • Install and remove meter/regulators for proper placement for installation.
  • Perform some digging when installing and repairing underground gas lines.
  • Communicate with customers about delinquent accounts, service requirements, etc.
  • Comply with established safety and operating rules, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Attend regularly scheduled Safety Meetings and required training sessions.
  • Complete work orders for connects and disconnects accurately and timely.
  • Maintain stock of materials on the truck and complete inspection sheets.
