About The Position

MGU, a subsidiary of WEC Energy Group, is seeking a Gas Utility Worker in our Monroe, Michigan location. The role involves recording customer natural gas usage in handheld devices and providing quality customer service by reading meters, inspecting meters and equipment, and providing information to customers. The worker will perform other duties as assigned and in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement, reporting to the assigned leader and performing duties under the general supervision of the Operations Supervisor.

Requirements

• High school diploma, HSED or GED.
• Must possess a valid driver's license and meet company standards for driving.
• 1+ years' experience with safety requirements.
• 3+ years' familiarity with computers.

Responsibilities

• Record customer natural gas usage.
• Obtain assigned route and handheld unit.
• Accurately read and record meter readings for all types of meters.
• Report irregularities in meter reading or in gas consumption.
• Inform supervisor of any discrepancies.
• Report suspected cases of diversion.
• Report meter installation not conforming to company rules.
• Report meters not listed in handheld.
• Report gas leaks on service lines, broken meters and service seals.
• Provide Customer Service.
• Relay customer requests to appropriate personnel.
• Provide information regarding company policies and rates.
• Handle minor customer complaints.
• Paint meters.
• Complete records and forms required.
• Conduct locating and atmospheric corrosion surveys.
• Assist other employees of higher classification when required.
