The Gastroenterology Technician 2 position at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center involves working under clinical oversight to perform examinations and procedures in the gastroenterology department. This part-time role requires proficiency in assisting with procedures, guiding fellow technicians, and maintaining a safe healthcare environment. The technician will also be responsible for training new staff and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with procedures not requiring sedation, ensuring patients are informed and answering questions.
  • Partner with nurses and doctors during sedation procedures.
  • Use scopes, monitor vital signs, and assist with emergencies like CPR.
  • Keep equipment clean and sanitized.
  • Train and oversee other technicians to ensure quality control during gastrointestinal procedures.
  • Assist in the recovery room by monitoring and noting patient physiological data.
  • Prepare specimen slides for lab investigation.
  • Ensure technicians follow standards and provide feedback.
  • Partner with Clinical Nurses in documenting required data during patient admission and discharge in the GI Lab.
  • Order supplies, obtain supervisor approval, and communicate with vendors for timely delivery.
  • Monitor equipment, create quality reports, and manage maintenance schedules.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED certification.
  • At least 3 years of relevant work experience.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification or willingness to obtain one within 30 days.

  • Familiarity with norms and procedures involved in patient care.
  • Ability to recognize and communicate changes in a patient's health to team members and doctors.
  • Capability to adhere to enforced safety measures, infection control strategies, and isolation routines consistently.

  • Effective interpersonal abilities to establish positive interactions with patients and team members.
