  • Troubleshoot technical issues with the GC-MS system and other associated laboratory equipment as needed.
  • Develop, validate, and optimize GC-MS analytical methods to ensure sensitivity, specificity, and reliability.
  • Implement sample preparation and extraction techniques tailored to the sample matrix for optimal GC-MS analysis.
  • Evaluate new protocols and technologies to enhance workflow efficiency and accuracy.
  • Analyze GC-MS data, interpret results, and ensure quality data output according to established standards.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of methods, analyses, and results in compliance with regulatory and laboratory standards (GLP/GMP).
  • Prepare scientific reports, data summaries, and technical presentations for internal and external clients.
  • Ensure compliance with laboratory safety protocols and regulatory requirements for chemical handling and hazardous materials.
  • Follow quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) protocols to ensure accurate, reproducible results.
  • Stay current with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and other regulatory guidelines relevant to GC-MS work.
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including quality control, regulatory, and R&D.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to junior scientists and technicians on GC-MS best practices and instrumentation use.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience with GC-MS, specifically with the Agilent 7890A GC and 5975C MSD.
  • Proficiency with Agilent Mass Hunter software.
  • Solid understanding of GC-MS principles, mass spectral interpretation, and method development applications.
  • Experience with sample preparation techniques, including derivatization and extraction.
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with laboratory quality systems, such as GMP or ISO standards.
  • Experience in environmental, cannabis, pharmaceutical, or forensic testing laboratories.
  • Knowledge of industry standards, such as EPA, FDA, or EU analytical guidelines.
