About the position

As a GCP Cloud Engineer at Ford Motor Company, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of mobility by enhancing and simplifying Ford's complex global infrastructure environment. This position is part of the Enterprise Technology Group, where you will be responsible for managing cloud-native infrastructure across Google Cloud Platform (GCP), on-premises data centers, and distributed locations worldwide. Your work will directly impact the way Ford leverages technology to redefine transportation and improve customer experiences. In this role, you will collaborate with Technology and Software Platform teams to provide comprehensive solutions for cloud infrastructure, including hosting, computing, databases, and networks. You will define, analyze, assemble, and integrate components to deliver infrastructure patterns that meet business needs, ensuring considerations for software availability, scalability, and reliability are met. Your responsibilities will also include designing, building, and maintaining GCP infrastructure to support various applications and services, while staying current with GCP technologies and best practices to recommend continuous improvements. You will be tasked with developing and documenting GCP infrastructure and deployment processes, utilizing your experience with REST APIs, Agile tools, DevOps, and version control systems like Git and JIRA. Additionally, you will design and develop high-performance, scalable, and secure cloud-native applications on GCP, working closely with development teams to implement best practices for application deployment and management. Monitoring and optimizing GCP resource performance, troubleshooting issues, and maintaining open communication channels to share technical expertise and best practices will also be key aspects of your role.

Responsibilities

  • Work with Technology and Software Platform teams to provide solutions for cloud infrastructure across the Ford Enterprise.
  • Define, analyze, assemble, and integrate components to deliver infrastructure patterns for the business.
  • Design, build, and maintain GCP infrastructure to support applications and services.
  • Collaborate with other teams to integrate GCP services into the overall IT architecture.
  • Stay current with GCP technologies and best practices, providing recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Develop, advise, and document GCP infrastructure and deployment processes.
  • Design and develop high performance, scalable, and secure cloud-native applications on GCP.
  • Work with development teams to implement best practices for deploying and managing applications on GCP.
  • Monitor and optimize the performance of GCP resources, troubleshooting and resolving issues as needed.
  • Support the development of technical design and documentation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • 7 years of experience in IT or Technology-related disciplines with progressively increasing responsibility.
  • 5+ years of experience working with cloud-native GCP and hybrid cloud environments.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in scripting and automation using Python, Bash, or similar languages.
  • 2+ years' experience with infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform or Deployment Manager.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of GCP services, including Containers, Cloud Run, Compute Engine, Kubernetes Engine, BigQuery, and Cloud Storage.
  • Good understanding of public cloud services offerings.
  • Experience in building big data solutions with a focus on security and compliance.
  • Experience working on Serverless design and implementing Container As A Service (CaaS).
  • Experience in building CI/CD pipelines using CI/CD methodologies.
  • Ability to ideate cloud-based solution accelerators and frameworks for migrating existing enterprise data warehouse to the Cloud.
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation tools with excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
