About the position

As a GCP Cloud Engineer at Ford Motor Company, you will be a key member of our Enterprise Technology Group, playing a critical role in shaping the future of mobility. Your primary responsibility will be to enhance and simplify Ford's complex global infrastructure environment, which spans Google Cloud Platform (GCP), on-premises data centers, and distributed locations across major regions. This position offers a unique opportunity to leverage advanced technology to redefine the transportation landscape, improve customer experiences, and positively impact people's lives. You will be tasked with providing day-to-day management of key cloud-native infrastructure, computing, database, network, storage, and interoperability initiatives. In this role, you will collaborate with Technology and Software Platform teams to deliver solutions for cloud infrastructure across the Ford Enterprise. This includes hosting, computing, databases, and networks. You will define, analyze, assemble, and integrate components to create infrastructure patterns that consider platforms, software, availability, scalability, and reliability. Your expertise will be essential in designing, building, and maintaining GCP infrastructure to support our applications and services. You will also stay current with GCP technologies and best practices, providing recommendations for continuous improvement. Additionally, you will develop, advise, and document GCP infrastructure and deployment processes, utilizing your experience with REST API, Agile tools, DevOps, and version control tools like Git and JIRA. Your role will involve designing and developing high-performance, scalable, and secure cloud-native applications on GCP, working closely with development teams to implement best practices for deploying and managing applications. You will monitor and optimize the performance of GCP resources, troubleshoot issues, and maintain open communication channels to share relevant information and best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Work with Technology and Software Platform teams to provide solutions for cloud infrastructure across the Ford Enterprise, including hosting, computing, databases, and networks.
  • Define, analyze, assemble, and integrate components to deliver infrastructure patterns for the business, considering platforms, software, availability, scalability, and reliability.
  • Design, build, and maintain GCP infrastructure to support applications and services.
  • Collaborate with other teams to integrate GCP services into the overall IT architecture.
  • Stay current with GCP technologies and best practices, providing recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Develop, advise, and document GCP infrastructure and deployment processes, utilizing experience with REST API, Agile tools, DevOps, and version control tools (Git, JIRA).
  • Design and develop high-performance, scalable, and secure cloud-native applications on GCP.
  • Work with development teams to implement best practices for deploying and managing applications on GCP.
  • Monitor and optimize the performance of GCP resources, troubleshooting and resolving issues as needed.
  • Support the development of technical design and documentation.
  • Maintain open channels of communication by providing relevant information, technical expertise, and recommended best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • 7 years of experience in IT or Technology-related disciplines with progressively increasing responsibility.
  • 5+ years of experience working with cloud-native GCP and hybrid cloud environments, including researching the best use of cloud products and the ecosystem, designing, developing, implementing, and managing Google Cloud Platform infrastructure.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in scripting and automation using Python, Bash, or similar languages.
  • 2+ years of experience with infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform or Deployment Manager.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of GCP services, including Containers, Cloud Run, Compute Engine, Kubernetes Engine, BigQuery, and Cloud Storage.
  • Good understanding of public cloud services offerings (covering Compute, Storage, Network, Web, Cognitive, AI, Functions, IAM, etc.).
  • Experience in building big data solutions, ensuring guardrails, security, and compliance of the GCP environment, with strong knowledge of Cloud security standards and principles including Identity and Access management.
  • Experience working on Serverless design, implementing Container As A Service (CaaS), Cloud Infrastructure (IaaS) Security Compliance requirements, monitoring Infrastructure (IaaS), Network management, storage management, and remediation automation.
  • Experience in building CI/CD pipelines using CI/CD methodologies leveraging Jenkins, containers, Kubernetes, etc.
  • Ability to ideate cloud-based solution accelerators and frameworks independently for migrating existing enterprise data warehouse to the Cloud.
  • Ability to define and design the technical architecture with best-suited GCP components ensuring seamless end-to-end workflow for applications.
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation tools along with excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, strong communication and collaboration abilities.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills to provide new feature demos to project stakeholders.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, a strong desire to move projects forward and be proactive, seeking opportunities to learn and improve.
  • Google Cloud Platform certification is a plus.
