About the position

The GCP Database Services Architect at TEKsystems Global Services is responsible for leading database migration and conversion projects from various legacy systems to Google Cloud Platform (GCP) databases. This role involves hands-on development work, collaboration with cross-functional teams, and addressing performance and scalability issues in a fast-paced environment. The architect will leverage their expertise in database technologies and cloud services to drive positive change and business outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Analyze, design, architect and execute on database migration and/or conversion projects from legacy databases to GCP Cloud SQL, Alloy DB, Cloud Spanner.
• Hands-on development work using Change Data Capture (CDC) Replication tools and streaming tools.
• Develop and refactor PL*SQL code as part of database migrations and conversions.
• Work with Kubernetes Engine, Docker Containers, and other Serverless products.
• Implement application automation testing via JUnit, REST APIs, Postman.
• Develop CICD DevOps pipelines leveraging GitHub, GitLab, BitBucket.
• Manage storage lifecycles, disaster recovery, and SRE practices.
• Collaborate with Application owners, Business stakeholders, Product Managers, Scrum Master, and DevOps Engineers to execute migrations.
• Address performance and scalability issues in database architecture models.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent practical experience.
• Hands-on DBA experience in Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL or DB2.
• Strong PL*SQL development experience.
• Experience migrating on-prem legacy databases to cloud databases, preferably GCP.
• Strong understanding of GCP Cloud databases such as Cloud SQL, Alloy DB, Spanner, etc.
• Experience with programming languages including Java or Python.

Nice-to-haves

• GCP Professional Certification in areas like Cloud Architect, Cloud Database Engineer, Data Engineer, or DevOps Engineer.
• Full-stack experience and understanding of application interactions with databases.
• Ability to learn other coding languages as needed.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
