About the position

The Communications and Public Relations Specialist at Goshen Community Schools is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive communication program that effectively informs and engages various stakeholders, including the school board, staff, parents, media, and the public. The role focuses on clear messaging regarding school initiatives, decisions, and events, while also enhancing the school's branding and community engagement efforts.

Responsibilities

• Update and maintain the school district website.
• Monitor, administer, and update all GCS social media accounts.
• Utilize ParentSquare for effective student/parent communications.
• Collaborate with the Superintendent and the Board of School Trustees to communicate initiatives and decisions.
• Annually update a comprehensive communication plan aligned with the school's strategic plan.
• Coordinate and oversee the development of communication materials, including print, video, web, and social media.
• Build and maintain relationships with media and regional agency communication directors.
• Participate in coordinating employee and division-wide events that showcase achievements.
• Develop a Communication Handbook including crisis information for the school district.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field.
• Master's degree preferred.
• Three to five years of progressively responsible experience in strategic communications and public relations, preferably in the public sector or public schools.
• Strong writing and editing skills.
• Knowledge of best communication practices and strategies, including social media and crisis communications.
• Ability to work under pressure with tight deadlines.

Nice-to-haves

• Membership in the Indiana School Public Relations Association (INDSPRA).
• Experience with community engagement and internal/external communications.
