About the position

The Gear Up Assistant Coordinator at Graham County Schools is responsible for providing training and support to enhance preparation for post-secondary education among students, parents, and educators. This role involves coordinating various educational programs, workshops, and activities aimed at increasing awareness and access to college opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Orient parents, students, faculty, and staff to GEAR UP and raise awareness of the benefits of post-secondary education.
  • Serve as a college planning resource for teachers, educators, counselors, and parents.
  • Design and implement in-school and after-school tutoring and mentoring programs in coordination with other GEAR UP agencies.
  • Work with in-school and out-of-school time clubs to provide opportunities for youth to explore a variety of careers.
  • Develop, implement, and/or enhance parent workshops.
  • Coordinate academic year college visits for students.
  • Develop a comprehensive pre-college program for middle and high school students that includes career exploration, academic planning/preparation, and financial planning.
  • Work cooperatively with educators to provide summer enrichment activities that include job shadowing, college visits, camps, and career activities.
  • Manage data collection and entry from schools and provide continuous feedback to the GEAR UP partnership staff regarding project benchmarks and outcomes.
  • Collect rosters and agendas from each event listing students and families served for attachment to monthly reimbursement requests.
  • Attend GEAR UP Partnership meetings, institutes, and conferences, providing continuous feedback and recommendations.
  • Assist in developing the annual work plan with ASU GEAR UP guidance.
  • Serve as a mentor and provide a positive role model for GEAR UP students; encourage eligible cohorts to participate in GEAR UP activities.
  • Work with the District Liaison and GCS staff to complete annual budget requests.
  • Direct activities as the GEAR UP Parent Advocate.
  • Complete any additional tasks assigned by supervisor.

Requirements

  • Experience in or knowledge of the public-school setting is preferred.
  • Strong public relation skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in written and oral communication skills.
  • Computer competency.
  • Ability to organize travel events.
  • Certification, 2-year college degree or 4-year college degree.

Benefits

  • Full-time position with a salary of $41,600 per year.
