About the position

The Senior Developer for Generative AI at NextEra is responsible for establishing best practices and driving consistency across development teams. This role involves implementing cloud monitoring and alerting solutions, particularly using AWS CloudWatch, and integrating these systems with ServiceNow for incident management. The position also includes mentoring junior developers and collaborating with cross-functional teams to align development efforts with organizational goals.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and document standard operating procedures for development practices across multiple pods
  • Implement monitoring and alerting solutions using AWS CloudWatch for application health and performance
  • Integrate AWS CloudWatch with ServiceNow for incident management and response
  • Mentor and upskill junior developers on established standards and practices
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align development efforts with broader organizational goals
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and promote adoption of best practices
  • Contribute to architectural decisions and design reviews
  • Analyze, design, develop, test, debug, implement, maintain, integrate, customize and enhance existing or new systems
  • Automate the handoff of code releases from development to operations (DevOps)
  • Participate in the change management and service ticket management processes, ensuring customer satisfaction
  • Lead projects when needed and build a strong understanding of the solution being delivered
  • Ensure user satisfaction by providing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and timely resolution of complex problems
  • Design, develop and test experimental application work to test new ideas
  • Ensure that application processes comply with corporate policies and applicable standards
  • Act as liaison with regulatory agencies, vendors, and contractors on matters relating to computer systems
  • Define metrics and monitor Service Level Agreements (SLAs) for systems being developed

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience in software development roles, preferably in a cloud-native environment
  • Strong proficiency with AWS services, particularly CloudWatch, and monitoring/alerting solutions
  • Experience with ServiceNow or similar IT service management platforms
  • Expertise in coding best practices, design patterns, and software architectures
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Proven ability to mentor and lead junior developers
  • Passion for continuous learning and staying up-to-date with industry trends
  • Knowledge of agile methodologies and DevOps practices
  • Familiarity with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Experience with infrastructure as code (CDK / CloudFormation)
