About the position
The Gender Equity Advisor for Freshwater Fisheries at The Nature Conservancy (TNC) plays a crucial role in developing and implementing the Freshwater Fisheries strategy within the Global Provide Food and Water team. This position focuses on supporting inland fisheries under Indigenous and community leadership, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. The Advisor provides technical expertise on gender equity, collaborates with various stakeholders, and ensures equitable implementation of the strategy, contributing to biodiversity and human well-being outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Advise on the development and implementation of the Freshwater Fisheries strategy.
- Provide expert gender advice to field staff and manage priority projects.
- Collect data and conduct literature reviews related to gender equity.
- Write reports and manage contracts with specialists.
- Participate in national and international dialogues on gender equity issues.
- Collaborate with staff in different countries to assess and document gender equity needs in fishing communities.
- Track corporate practices and governmental policies impacting conservation goals.
- Advise TNC communications, marketing, and philanthropy staff on gender equity issues.
Requirements
- Experience in gender equity and social inclusion, particularly in the context of freshwater fisheries.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect and interpret data.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience working with Indigenous and community-led initiatives.
- Ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders, including NGOs, government, and intergovernmental organizations.
