About the position

The Gene Editing Technician position at RiceTec, Inc. involves assisting in the advancement of gene-editing through plant tissue culture and transformation. The technician will conduct plant tissue culture work under the supervision of the Gene-editing Scientist, supporting and monitoring tissue culture growth chambers, plantlet and seedling development, transplanting, seed/tissue harvest, grinding tissue samples, and preparing tissue culture media. The role requires working independently using aseptic techniques in a laminar flow hood and assisting with tissue transformation. General lab maintenance and record keeping are also essential components of the job, including cleaning and preparing lab equipment and supplies. The technician will operate in a culture of safety, promoting and adhering to all safety guidelines while maintaining operational excellence through quality management and good housekeeping practices. Basic record keeping, including tracking project progress, is also part of the responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in advancing gene-editing through plant tissue culture and transformation.
  • Conduct plant tissue culture work under the supervision of the Gene-editing Scientist.
  • Support and monitor tissue culture growth chambers, plantlet and seedling development, transplanting, seed/tissue harvest, grinding tissue samples, and tissue culture media preparation.
  • Work independently using aseptic technique in a laminar flow hood.
  • Assist with tissue transformation.
  • Perform general lab maintenance and record keeping, including cleaning and preparing lab equipment and supplies.
  • Promote and follow all safety guidelines in the laboratory.
  • Maintain operational excellence through quality management and good housekeeping practices.
  • Track project progress through basic record keeping.

Requirements

  • Tissue culture laboratory experience (no experience needed).
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Strong organizational and record keeping skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience with aseptic laboratory techniques and/or working within laminar flow hoods.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working in a molecular biology or tissue culture laboratory.
  • Hands-on experience with plant tissue culture techniques in plants.
