About the position

The General Accountant (Gen Accountant 3) at the University of California, Davis is responsible for managing major and minor capital projects, maintaining plant funds and accounts, monitoring budget overdrafts, and preparing financial reports. This role involves assisting with monthly and yearly fiscal closes and requires a thorough understanding of accounting principles and standards. Responsibilities

  • Manage major and minor capital projects.
  • Establish and maintain plant funds and accounts appropriate to the budget.
  • Monitor budget overdrafts and reconcile monthly expenditures.
  • Prepare semi-annual capitalizations.
  • Assist with monthly and yearly fiscal closes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance or related area or equivalent years of experience.
  • Experience in fund accounting including audit techniques and internal control standards.
  • Thorough knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), theory, practice, and standards as they relate to general ledger maintenance and reconciliation and financial statement preparation.
  • Thorough knowledge of Governmental Accounting Standard Board (GASB) and Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) accounting standards related to financial statement preparation.
  • Analytical skills to resolve complex problems that may affect multiple organizations or functions.
  • Decision-making skills to review financial information, define issues, and develop strategies to resolve issues, including the ability to analyze and calculate complex financial formulas.
  • Written communication skills to develop training materials, written memos, policies, procedures, etc., and convey them to a diverse audience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Accounting experience in a higher education environment, preferably UC.
  • Experience with Oracle Cloud Financials.
  • Organizational skills to organize, coordinate, and set priorities effectively; multi-task and adapt to changing priorities on multiple projects.
