About the position

The Maymont Foundation is seeking a General Accountant II to join its team. This position is crucial for ensuring the accuracy of data within the accounting system and performing a variety of general accounting duties. The General Accountant II will be responsible for creating entries for accounts receivable, fixed assets, investments, and income. This role is integral to the financial operations of the Maymont Foundation, which has been dedicated to providing unique experiences that delight, educate, and inspire guests since 1975. The foundation operates on a 100-acre historic estate and park in Richmond, Virginia, and is committed to maintaining its mission through effective financial management. In this role, the General Accountant II will conduct weekly accounts receivable processing, which includes inputting client information, sending invoices, entering payments, and tracking balances. The accountant will also assist in analyzing data and preparing monthly reports related to financial results, operating costs, capital spending, and other areas as they arise. Additionally, the position involves preparing regulatory compliance reports as needed, creating entries for donations and earned income captured through Altru software, and managing fixed assets accounting, including additions, disposals, and depreciation calculations. The General Accountant II will prepare remote check deposits and serve as backup for accounts payable, cash receipts, and general accounting tasks as needed. Collaboration with the finance and accounting team is essential to communicate status, propose solutions, and improve processes. The role requires strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive issues with discretion. Responsibilities

  • Conducts weekly accounts receivable processing including inputting clients, sending invoices, entering payments and tracking balances
  • Assists in analyzing data and preparing monthly reports related to financial results, operating costs, capital spending, and other areas as they arise
  • Assists with preparing regulatory (state and federal) compliance reports, as needed
  • Creates entries for donations and earned income captured through Altru software
  • Creates entries for fixed assets accounting including additions, disposals, and depreciation calculations
  • Creates entries for endowment and investment accounts for reconciliation, allocation and draw down
  • Prepares remote check deposits
  • Serves as backup for accounts payable, cash receipts, and general accountant as needed
  • Collaborates with the finance and accounting team to communicate status, propose solutions, and improve processes
  • Assists with other duties and tasks as assigned

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in accounting or business administration
  • 5 years of working experience with proven increasing accounting responsibility considered in lieu of degree
  • Working knowledge of GAAP and general business terms and concepts
  • Strong analytical, mathematical and problem-solving skills, paying careful attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong organizational skills, good time management skills, ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines
  • Intermediate computer skills and experience with software programs including Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to maintain confidential information and handle sensitive issues with discretion
  • Ability to collaborate as part of a team and interact effectively with individuals of diverse backgrounds and experiences
  • Ability to work with a minimum of supervision, show initiative, take ownership of an entire process and take a creative approach to tasks
  • Valid driver's license required with reliable transportation to/from Maymont
