About the position

The General Activities Therapist 2 position at the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction involves planning, conducting, and monitoring recreational and therapeutic activities for inmates. The role is essential in promoting personal development and rehabilitation through structured activities, while also ensuring safety and compliance within the correctional environment.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, conducts, implements and monitors general recreation, personal development, structured therapeutic and entertainment activities for inmates.
  • Serves as a member of an interdisciplinary team to analyze, assess, evaluate, define, and recommend group and/or individual treatment goals and activities.
  • Observes participants during activities to ensure engagement and safety.
  • Serves in an instructional capacity for inmates, guiding them through various activities.
  • Prepares and maintains work-related documentation, including reports on individual behavior and progress, and statistical records for program evaluation.
  • Performs security functions as required, including man-down, shakedown, and inmate movement.
  • Participates in meetings, conferences, and training sessions related to activities therapy.
  • Responsible for the storage, issuance, and maintenance of supplies, including picking up and delivering production goods.
  • Performs job and fixture set-up as needed.
  • Relieves supervisor in their absence and performs other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Completion of an associate degree in a recreational area and 24 months of experience in activity therapy or recreation.
  • Completion of an undergraduate core program in recreation (e.g., physical education) and 12 months of experience in activity therapy or recreation.
  • 12 months of experience as General Activities Therapist 1, 44211.
  • Equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.
