The General Cleaner position is part of the Environmental Services team, responsible for maintaining a clean and sanitized environment throughout the hospital. This role involves performing a range of housekeeping duties, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, scrubbing, polishing, dusting, and cleansing designated objects and areas. General Cleaners will follow approved hospital cleaning procedures to ensure that all assigned areas are kept clean and hygienic. The position may also require the operation of various cleaning machines and equipment, as well as maintaining stock of housekeeping supplies and preparing patient rooms for occupancy upon discharge or transfer. This role is essential in supporting the hospital's mission of providing a safe and welcoming environment for patients, visitors, and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains daily cleaning of assigned areas by following the approved hospital cleaning procedures.
  • Performs basic housekeeping tasks including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, scrubbing, polishing, dusting, and cleansing designated objects/areas.
  • Operates vacuum cleaners, floor scrubbers, burnishers, buffers, and wall washing equipment as instructed.
  • Maintains stock of all housekeeping supplies in assigned areas and keeps housekeeping closets and equipment organized.
  • Prepares patient rooms for occupancy upon patient discharge or transfer, including sanitation of patient beds, furniture, and equipment.
  • Cleans and maintains refrigerators, stoves, ovens, and other patient and non-patient care equipment.
  • Sets up and cleans meeting rooms per specifications of department requester.
  • Collects and disposes of all trash and waste as needed.
  • Cleans, disinfects, and sanitizes items such as bathroom sinks, floors, and showers; fills soap dispensers and paper towel and tissue dispensers.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and follow oral and written instructions in English at a level acquired through the completion of elementary school.
  • Ability to learn and perform basic housekeeping practices and understand the policies and procedures of the hospital.
  • High School Diploma or completion of GED preferred.
