About the position

The General Counsel serves as a trusted legal advisor to executive leaders and key personnel across various business units and affiliates within Honu Services. This role is crucial for ensuring compliance with legal, contractual, and policy requirements, while also providing strategic legal support for corporate transactions and managing legal risks.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a trusted legal advisor to executive leaders and key personnel.
• Identify risk, ethics, and compliance issues, providing strategic advice and training.
• Provide legal support for mergers, acquisitions, joint venture agreements, and other corporate transactions.
• Review, draft, and negotiate legal documents and agreements.
• Improve and create policies, processes, and standards within the legal discipline.
• Oversee, manage, and provide guidance to direct reports.
• Collaborate with other departments to ensure alignment on legal matters.
• Manage processes in support of required reporting submissions.
• Coordinate engagement of outside counsel.
• Stay informed about changes in laws and regulations that may affect the enterprise.
• Complete other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent from an accredited U.S. institution.
• Juris Doctorate from an accredited U.S. law school.
• Current Hawaii State Bar Membership (or ability to obtain membership).
• Alabama Corporate Counsel Certificate (or ability to obtain Certificate).
• Exceptional verbal and writing skills.
• Deep knowledge of regulations and statutes related to Native Hawaiian Organizations.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
