About the position

Cook County School District 104 is seeking a dedicated and passionate 5th Grade General Education Teacher to join our team. This full-time, contract position is designed for an individual who is committed to facilitating student comprehension and application of essential concepts, skills, and behaviors that contribute to the development of mature, able, and responsible members of society. The teacher will work for a work year of 180 days and will report directly to the Building Principal. The ideal candidate will possess a valid K-9 State of Illinois Professional Educator's License (PEL) with the required content endorsements and must meet the 'highly qualified' criteria. The teacher will be responsible for employing a variety of instructional techniques, instructional media, and performance assessments to guide the learning process toward academic achievement and curriculum goals. Clear objectives for all lessons, curricular units, and projects must be established and communicated effectively to students. Regular assessment of student accomplishments will be required, along with the maintenance of accurate records as mandated by law, district policy, and administrative regulations. The teacher will also administer and analyze standardized testing data, adjusting instructional strategies as needed to maximize student success. Recognizing the special needs of students and seeking assistance from district specialists when necessary is crucial, as is the ability to make appropriate individualized accommodations within the classroom. Building effective relationships with parents and students through regular communication is essential, as is the availability for education-related purposes such as open houses, conferences, and extracurricular activities. The teacher will assist in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, developing reasonable rules concerning classroom procedures and behavior, and maintaining a safe and orderly classroom environment. Other duties may be assigned by district administration as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques, instructional media, and performance assessments to guide the learning process toward academic achievement and curriculum goals.
  • Establish clear objectives for all lessons, curricular units, and projects and communicate these objectives to the students.
  • Assess the accomplishments of students in a variety of ways on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
  • Administer and analyze standardized testing data and adjust instructional strategies as needed to maximize the probability of student success.
  • Recognize the special needs of students and seek assistance from district specialists as needed, making appropriate individualized physical and instructional accommodations within the classroom.
  • Build effective relationships with parents and students through regular communication and be available for education-related purposes such as open houses and conferences.
  • Assist in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, developing reasonable rules concerning classroom procedures and behavior, and maintaining a safe and orderly classroom environment.
  • Serve on building-level and district-wide committees as needed, e.g., curriculum resource adoption and curriculum writing.

Requirements

  • Valid K-9 State of Illinois Professional Educator's License (PEL) with required content endorsements.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, and textbooks.
  • Ability to write reports and general correspondence.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills to present information and respond to questions from various stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate multiple facets of technology to enhance learning and instruction.
  • Fluency in Spanish is preferred.
