About the position

The General Engineer position at the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) involves planning and conducting examinations of tax issues related to engineering and valuation methods. Responsibilities

  • Plan and conduct issue examinations using specialized knowledge of engineering and valuation methods.
  • Serve as a technical engineering expert providing analysis and development of tax compliance strategies.
  • Conduct field investigations of real and personal property and accounting records.
  • Value real and personal property using accepted valuation principles.
  • Review and investigate complex engineering issues related to tax cases.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited institution or equivalent education and experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering.
  • Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) is preferred.
  • Experience applying professional engineering concepts and practices.
