About the position

The General Farmworker position in Dillon, Montana, is a temporary full-time role focused on various duties related to hay production and cattle management. The job encompasses general farm work, irrigation, crop production, and livestock care, requiring a diverse skill set in operating farm machinery and performing manual labor tasks.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, drive, attach, and operate farm implements, tractors, and equipment to till soil, plant, cultivate, fertilize, and harvest crops.
• Make minor mechanical adjustments and repairs on farm machinery.
• Mix and/or spray chemicals according to appropriate restrictive use laws when applicable.
• Remove undesirable and excess growth from crops or farm grounds.
• Remove rocks from the field.
• Paint, repair, and maintain farm structures.
• Replace and repair fencing.
• Perform general cleanup of farm areas.
• Drive, load, and unload trucks.
• Operate vehicles, motorbikes, or all-terrain vehicles in the course of performing duties.
• Lift gates in flooded irrigation ditches to permit water flow into bordered sections of fields.
• Shovel and pack dirt in low spots of embankments or cut trenches in high areas to direct water flow.
• Close gates in ditches when bordered sections are flooded.
• Shovel or hoe soil to clear ditches and build embankments to channel water appropriately.
• Place, remove, move, and maintain tarp dams.
• Apply or administer medications, vaccines, and insecticides to livestock.
• Mix feed and additives and feed/water livestock.
• Place mineral blocks and drive equipment to haul/distribute feed/water.
• Herd livestock and perform tasks such as docking, castrating, branding, clipping, tagging, and clamping livestock.
• Clean and disinfect livestock stalls, corrals, and sheds.
• Hoist and stack bales of hay onto wagons or trucks.

Requirements

• Ability to operate farm machinery and equipment safely and effectively.
• Experience in general farm work and crop production.
• Knowledge of livestock care and management practices.
• Ability to perform physical labor and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
