About the position

The General LAB Support Hardware Engineer will be part of the Silicon and Cloud Hardware Infrastructure Engineering (SCHIE) team, responsible for supporting innovative projects in a fast-paced and technically driven environment. This role focuses on optimizing lab operations for first and third-party designs in an R&D lab setting, ensuring that the infrastructure is capable of scaling effectively while maintaining high performance and quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Support various project needs like hardware, rack, network, infrastructure, racking system, and power distribution.
  • Support server rack, network connection, and infrastructure problem, maintenance, and management.
  • Support OS updates and firmware upgrades (in-band or out-of-band).
  • Support liquid cooling solutions and monitoring.
  • Escalate and/or seek guidance from experienced technicians or direct-line management regarding client interaction.
  • Maintain awareness of Key Performance Indicators (KPI) through reporting dashboards for personal monthly performance discussion as needed.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of cross-functional program processes to support partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Complete required training aligned to job focus area and workload in a timely manner per direct-line management alignment.
  • Actively mentor and support training of other technicians through on-the-job training (OJT) and by providing direct guidance on specific job focus area and workload.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of technical engineering experience OR a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 2+ years of technical engineering experience OR a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
  • Ability to meet customer and/or government security screening requirements.

Nice-to-haves

  • 5+ years of experience in technical operations related to server system architecture including server functionality, network requirements, and management.
  • Familiarity with core routing, switching functions, and LAN technologies.
  • Experience with Linux command line operations and scripting languages such as PowerShell.
  • Experience in installation, configuration, and support of operating systems including both Linux and Windows.
  • Troubleshooting system hardware errors and fixing issues.
  • Physical installation and/or removal of equipment within the Data Center or Intermediary Data Facilities.
  • Experience with liquid loop preparation and assembly.
  • Background with system level qualification, validation, I/O interconnect, and PCIe high-speed data switches.
  • Ability to solve and support projects involving OU creation, Group Policy, MECM, image build, maintenance automation, and monitoring automation.
  • Experience with VM manipulation and PowerShell scripting.
  • Experience with lab test equipment setup for signal measurement using oscilloscopes and the capability to read and interpret schematic diagrams.
