About the position

The General Laboratory Supervisor for High Complexity Lab at University Cancer & Blood Center is responsible for overseeing laboratory operations, ensuring compliance with regulations, and managing laboratory personnel. This role involves performing testing in Chemistry and Hematology, implementing quality control measures, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement within the lab. The supervisor will also analyze laboratory data to support patient care decisions and mentor staff to enhance their professional development.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and understand general testing and reporting in Chemistry and Hematology.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laboratory regulations, standards, and safety protocols, including CLIA and CAP guidelines.
  • Implement quality control measures to maintain the accuracy and reliability of laboratory results.
  • Conduct regular audits and proficiency testing, addressing any issues or discrepancies.
  • Train laboratory personnel, including medical technologists, technicians, and assistants.
  • Provide ongoing performance feedback, mentorship, and professional development opportunities.
  • Review and analyze laboratory data, interpreting results to support patient care decisions.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement, operational efficiency, and cost control.
  • Implement new technologies, methodologies, and best practices to enhance laboratory performance.
  • Identify and mitigate potential risks and hazards in the laboratory.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or a related field.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or Medical Technologist (MT) from a recognized certifying agency.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working in a clinical laboratory, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
  • Thorough knowledge of laboratory testing methodologies, instrumentation, and quality control procedures.
  • Familiarity with relevant regulatory requirements, such as CLIA guidelines.
  • Strong understanding of laboratory safety practices and infection control protocols.
  • Proficient in using laboratory information systems and other relevant software applications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours.
