About the position

The General Ledger Accountant is responsible for various accounting functions including the preparation of journal entries and maintenance of account reconciliations. In this capacity, he/she interacts with the other National Accounting and Purchasing Administration personnel, as well as division personnel to ensure the integrity of the accounting information. Additionally, he/she will understand the implications of non-lot level accounting and work to resolve non-lot staging issues in a timely manner. The General Ledger Accountant is a member of the Accounting Department. The Accounting Department consists of: Controller, Assistant Controller/Accounting Manager, Sr. Cost Accountant, and General Ledger Accountant. This position reports to the Controller and Assistant Controller/Accounting Manager and has no direct reports.

Responsibilities

  • Intercompany clearing
  • Sales entries
  • Primary responsibility for HUD/COS process
  • First review of entries for accuracy, consistency and adherence to Company policy
  • Communicate with DUP and title companies
  • Ensures all closed homes are recorded each month
  • Lot cost summaries/Cost-off entries
  • Incentive compensation - calculation and accrual
  • Preparation of various schedules in Financial Statement Package
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, formulas, etc.)
  • Fixed cost review and trend analysis
  • Account reconciliations preparation and analysis
  • Trust/Escrow account deposit maintenance
  • Review model upgrade budgets (Schedule 17) and applicable budget revisions
  • Statistical entry
  • Sales commissions (internal and external)
  • Accrued expenses, including warranty analysis
  • Personal property and sales tax preparation, if applicable
  • Maintain fixed assets records and record monthly depreciation
  • Sustainability reporting and tracking
  • Assist with Sr. Cost Accountant duties
  • Strong experience in reading, analyzing and reconciling financial reports
  • Good analytical and problem solving skills
  • Advanced Excel skills including lookups and pivot tables for analysis
  • Proficient in Word, PowerPoint; Access a plus
  • Systems knowledge for importing data to derive solutions, analysis and reporting
  • Attention to details, updates job knowledge, self-motivated to learn and participate in projects
  • Good communication skills, works well with people, positive attitude, meets deadlines
  • Ability to effectively communicate with NAPA and division personnel
  • May be required to work overtime as necessary

Requirements

  • Strong experience in reading, analyzing and reconciling financial reports
