About the position

The Handyman at ABM is responsible for maintaining the physical condition and appearance of properties, including fixed and portable equipment. This role involves performing minor repairs and maintenance tasks, ensuring a safe environment, and supporting site safety plans under the supervision of the Superintendent. The position requires a proactive approach to facility upkeep and tenant service, contributing to the overall operational standards of the engineering department.

Responsibilities

• Diagnoses and performs minor and routine maintenance/repairs including electrical, plumbing, and appliance repairs.
• Conducts minor carpentry work and wall repair/painting.
• Maintains and inspects all capital and non-capital equipment within the facility.
• Ensures completion of all resident work orders and keeps the Superintendent informed of repair statuses.
• Performs routine preventive maintenance on equipment regularly.
• Reports items requiring major repairs to the Facility Manager and Superintendent.
• Corrects unsafe conditions immediately, such as broken gates or burned-out lights.
• Participates in standby emergency schedules for evening, weekend, and holiday coverage.
• Helps in snow removal when necessary.
• Maintains regular and on-time attendance in the workplace.

Requirements

• Past related experience in maintenance or handyman roles.
• Knowledgeable in the safe use and maintenance of hand tools and power tools.
• Ability to perform physical tasks such as standing, walking, bending, and climbing ladders.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with HVAC systems and facilities engineering is a plus.
• Certification in safety procedures or maintenance practices.
