About the position

The General Maintenance Laborer is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and orderliness in various work areas, including washrooms and transportation vehicles. This role involves cleaning both the interiors and exteriors of vehicles, ensuring that all areas are kept in a sanitary condition. The position requires the use of various cleaning equipment and chemicals, as well as performing minor maintenance tasks as needed.

Responsibilities

• Cleans vehicular interiors including driver's compartment, walls, ceilings, windows, handrails, mirrors, seats, step wells, and floors using appropriate equipment and chemicals.
• Removes any foreign materials from vehicular interiors.
• Vacuums and shampoos carpets.
• Performs minor levels of exterior cleaning.
• Assists in cleaning of work areas and preparing cleaning materials.
• May operate vehicles in yard as needed in accordance with DOT regulations.
• Reports damage, broken items, and upholstery defects.
• Performs bus lavatory waste dump at approved facility.
• Prepares and sanitizes bus lavatories with proper chemicals.
• Cleans parts and items with a steam cleaner as needed/directed.
• Empties all trash receptacles and changes plastic liners/sand as assigned.
• Cleans all glass surfaces and polishes all metal surfaces as assigned.
• Dusts all surfaces and under surfaces as assigned.
• Mops floors with a sweep mop treated with a product to cause dust adherence as assigned.
• Cleans all interior and exterior door surfaces, handrails, partitions, etc. as assigned.
• Cleans all doormats at all entrances, corridors, and recreation areas.
• Polices all areas assigned by identifying, picking up, and removing all litter, rubbish, debris, trash, and other loose objects.
• Performs preventative maintenance scheduled work as assigned.
• Performs minor landscaping duties.
• Performs other duties as assigned or directed.

Requirements

• Must be a United States Citizen.
• Completion of a standard grade; High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma preferred.
• Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
• Must be able to pass a post-offer/pre-employment physical.
• Must have a valid Class C Drivers license and maintain a safe driving record.
• Basic janitorial/housekeeping experience and knowledge with six (6) months experience in fields providing the knowledge, skills, and abilities identified in this job description.
• Knowledge of the use of cleaning materials such as soaps, powders, and cleaning chemicals.
• Excellent verbal and written command of the English language, with the ability to read and comprehend written correspondence.
• Ability to understand/interpret verbal and written instructions to perform required duties.
• Strong organizational skills commensurate with position and ability to prioritize tasks.
