About the position

The General Maintenance Person I at NSF's NOIRLab is responsible for assisting in the maintenance and operation of facilities on Kitt Peak. This role involves a variety of tasks including plumbing, carpentry, painting, custodial work, grounds keeping, and general renovation/maintenance under the guidance of a supervisor. The position requires a willingness to learn and advance skills through on-the-job training and coursework.

Responsibilities

• Provides custodial services to maintain a clean and orderly condition.
• Performs general maintenance under the direction of a Craftsperson or other COS staff lead.
• Conducts grounds upkeep using lawn mowers and weed eaters.
• Performs general vehicle maintenance on GSA fleet under supervision.
• Willing to learn and advance basic knowledge through training.

Requirements

• General knowledge of maintenance and janitorial methods such as dusting, sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming.
• General knowledge in crafts including carpentry, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing.
• Ability to use tools required for custodial and maintenance duties.
• Ability to cooperate with others and work as a team or independently.
• Basic computer skills for communication.
• Basic reading, writing, and speaking skills for effective communication.
• Valid State driver's license and a valid GSA permit issued by NOIRLab.
• Ability to fulfill occasional on-call requirements.
