About the position

This position involves performing groundskeeping and maintenance repair duties to ensure the upkeep of grounds, buildings, and related equipment. The role requires adherence to safety guidelines and encompasses a variety of tasks across different maintenance craft areas, including carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, and HVAC systems. The individual will also be responsible for routine grounds maintenance, including mowing, trimming, and snow removal, while maintaining a clean and organized work environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform groundskeeping and maintenance repair duties to maintain grounds, buildings, and related equipment.
• Assist in minor repairs and replacements in carpentry, including doors, windows, and floors.
• Maintain and repair various surface finishes such as carpet and tile.
• Mix, pour, and finish concrete for sidewalks and other structures.
• Paint and plaster building interiors and exteriors, preparing surfaces as needed.
• Conduct routine installation and maintenance of HVAC systems and controls.
• Perform minor electrical repairs and assist in inspections and replacements.
• Maintain and install locks and related hardware as a locksmith.
• Repair and maintain plumbing fixtures and equipment.
• Fabricate and repair metal roofs and related fixtures.
• Perform custodial duties and maintain cleanliness in the shop area.
• Test, install, and repair fire alarm systems and components.
• Mow, edge, and maintain lawns and flower beds, including weeding and watering.
• Keep grounds clean and operate equipment for site cleanup.
• Remove snow and ice from walkways and apply salt as necessary.
• Perform routine maintenance on grounds equipment and tools.
• Fertilize and plant trees, shrubs, and other plants as assigned.
• Complete necessary documentation for the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
• Perform other related duties as required.

Requirements

• Knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in safety areas, turf and shrub maintenance, snow removal, and building maintenance.
• Basic knowledge in skilled craft areas such as carpentry, plumbing, and electrical work.
• Demonstrated dexterity in using hand and power tools.
• Ability to read and write common vocabulary in sentence structure.
• Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations and calculations.
• Ability to follow detailed instructions in various forms.
• Skill in operating various types of maintenance equipment such as mowers and snow removal tools.
• Ability to adhere to safety procedures and operate related equipment.
• Willingness to work with diverse populations and in various weather conditions.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• 6 months of related experience in general maintenance repair and grounds work.
• Valid Driver's License.

Nice-to-haves

• Knowledge of OSHA and Ohio University safety guidelines and procedures (to be developed after employment).
