About the position

The General Maintenance Worker 2 position at Ohio University involves performing groundskeeping and maintenance repair duties to ensure the upkeep of the university's grounds, buildings, and related equipment. The role requires adherence to safety guidelines and encompasses a variety of tasks across different maintenance craft areas, including carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, and HVAC systems. The worker will also be responsible for grounds maintenance, including mowing, trimming, and snow removal, as well as completing necessary documentation for maintenance management systems.

Responsibilities

• Perform groundskeeping and maintenance repair duties to maintain grounds, buildings, and related equipment.
• Conduct minor repairs and replacements in carpentry, including doors, windows, and floors.
• Maintain and repair various surface finishes such as carpet and tile.
• Mix, pour, lay, and finish concrete for sidewalks and other structures.
• Paint and plaster building interiors and exteriors, preparing surfaces as needed.
• Install, maintain, and repair HVAC systems and controls.
• Perform minor electrical repairs and assist with inspections.
• Maintain and install locks and related hardware.
• Repair and maintain plumbing fixtures and equipment.
• Fabricate and repair metal roofs and related fixtures.
• Perform custodial duties and maintain cleanliness in the shop area.
• Maintain fire alarm systems and components.
• Mow, edge, and trim lawns, and maintain flower beds.
• Keep grounds clean and remove debris.
• Remove snow and ice from walkways and apply salt as necessary.
• Perform routine maintenance on grounds equipment and tools.
• Complete documentation for the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
• Perform other related duties as required.

Requirements

• Knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in maintenance and groundskeeping.
• Basic knowledge in skilled craft areas such as carpentry, plumbing, and electrical work.
• Demonstrated dexterity in using hand and power tools.
• Ability to read and write common vocabulary in sentence structure.
• Ability to perform basic arithmetic calculations.
• Ability to follow detailed instructions in various forms.
• Skill in operating maintenance equipment such as mowers and snow removal tools.
• Ability to follow safety procedures and operate related equipment.
• Willingness to work with diverse populations.
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
• Ability to work in various weather conditions and lift up to 50 pounds.
• 6 months of related experience in general maintenance and grounds work.
• Valid Driver's License.
