About the position

The General Maintenance Worker I is responsible for performing a variety of skilled and semi-skilled building maintenance and repair tasks under general supervision. This role ensures the property is maintained in a safe and clean condition, adhering to safety standards and operating equipment responsibly. The position involves a range of duties from cleaning and maintenance to minor repairs and compliance with safety regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Keep the complete interior appearance of the building clean and in good order.
  • Comply and track daily work orders and regular or preventative maintenance.
  • Assist supervisor with repairs of structures, including installations of cabinets, partitions, and shelves.
  • Repair furniture and equipment, and install floor coverings and window glass.
  • Assist with minor electrical repairs such as replacing switches and wiring.
  • Assist with repairs on refrigeration equipment and install sprinkler systems and water lines.
  • Repair faucets, plumbing, and heating systems.
  • Paint building interiors and exteriors, and perform concrete work.
  • Regularly clean common areas, laundry rooms, and office grounds.
  • Clean vacant apartments, including painting and carpet cleaning.
  • Manage trash removal and cleaning of trash rooms.
  • Follow up on previous work orders and scheduled tasks.
  • Decorate the interior and exterior of the building as guided by the supervisor.
  • Set up tables for special requests in common area rooms.
  • Maintain records of OSHA regulations and property inspections.
  • Participate in inspections of apartments and property.
  • Submit weekly maintenance and work order reports to supervisor.
  • Clean building floors and service restrooms.
  • Dust furniture and equipment, and clean windows and mirrors.
  • Mow and trim lawns and shrubbery, and clear debris from grounds.
  • Notify management of major repair needs.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Knowledgeable in basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and mechanical work.
  • Valid Florida driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to speak, write, and understand English.
  • Ability to work with diverse racial, ethnic, and economic groups.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual fluency in Spanish and English preferred.
