The General Maintenance Worker I (Inside) position at Loudoun County Public Schools involves performing general maintenance work at a semi-skilled level. The employee in this role assists tradesmen in maintaining various systems including electric, HVAC, plumbing, and associated fixtures and equipment. Additionally, the position entails seasonal maintenance of lawns and playgrounds, and the employee may perform minor repairs or simple tasks independently. The work environment includes both indoor and outdoor settings within school buildings, requiring adherence to strict procedures in the performance of assigned duties. The responsibilities of this role encompass a variety of maintenance tasks. These include routine activities such as moving furniture and instructional materials, installing and repairing signs and fences, and repairing curbs and pavements. The employee will assist technicians in maintaining fans, motors, air compressors, and plumbing equipment, as well as troubleshoot minor electrical problems in fans, light fixtures, switches, and receptacles. The role may also involve performing some repairs independently, such as fixing doors, door locks, carpets, panic bars, and replacing floor tiles. Other tasks include patching holes in walls, drywall finishing, painting, and corrosion protection. In addition to these responsibilities, the General Maintenance Worker I will assist in identifying roof leaks and making necessary repairs, perform basic carpentry, and manage snow removal in winter by plowing and clearing walkways. The employee will also be responsible for landscaping tasks such as pruning shrubs and trees, cutting grass, and maintaining power equipment for seasonal changes.
