The General Maintenance Worker position is a critical role within the waterfront shipboard construction and re-modernization sector, specifically working on U.S. Naval ships in shipyards and dry docks. This position requires the incumbent to perform a variety of maintenance and repair tasks in environments that can vary significantly in temperature, from high heat in the summer to cold in the winter. The General Maintenance Worker will engage in practical tasks that require a foundational skill set in various trades, including but not limited to painting, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, and electrical work. The responsibilities of this role include replacing electrical receptacles, wires, switches, fixtures, and motors, as well as patching minor holes and cracks in walls and ceilings using plaster or compound. The worker will also be responsible for repairing or replacing sinks, water coolers, and toilets, painting structures and equipment, and repairing or replacing concrete floors, steps, and sidewalks. Additional duties include replacing damaged paneling and floor tiles, hanging doors and installing door locks, replacing broken window panes, and performing general maintenance on equipment and machinery. It is important to note that this position excludes skilled craft workers who are part of formal apprenticeship programs or those who demonstrate proficiency in one or more trades. To succeed in this role, candidates must possess a high school diploma or GED and have at least one year of related experience. The position is located on the customer site in Seattle, WA, and requires U.S. citizenship. The work schedule is typically 40 hours per week, with travel requirements estimated at 10-25%.
