About The Position

Poteet ISD is currently accepting applications for the position of general maintenance worker. The primary purpose of this role is to perform general maintenance and repair of building structures and their mechanical, electrical, and sanitary systems throughout the district, as well as assist with the maintenance of grounds.

Requirements

• Valid Texas driver's license
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
• Knowledge of basic construction and routine maintenance and repair procedures
• Ability to communicate effectively (verbally)
• Ability to operate hand and power tools
• Ability to work independently
• One year experience in general building maintenance

Responsibilities

• Assist with repair and maintenance of district facilities, including repairing woodwork; replacing electrical switches, fixtures, and motors; painting, repairing, and replacing plumbing fixtures and drainage systems; and replacing broken glass.
• Inspect building exterior and interior, playground equipment, and grounds; perform maintenance and minor repairs.
• Detect and report needed major repairs on building structures and their systems, including lockers, furniture, and equipment.
• Assist the Director of Maintenance with planning, scheduling, and assigning employees to various work orders and other duties.
• Assist in inspecting painting, carpentry, plumbing, electrical and other mechanical, maintenance or construction work performed by maintenance employees.
• Assist in the oversight of the care of the maintenance of lawns, trees, shrubs and grounds.
• Assist with relocation of furnishings, such as desks, tables, chairs, file cabinets, etc.
• Move, install, assemble, and repair all school furniture and playground equipment as needed.
• Hang pictures, mirrors, blackboards, bulletin boards, projection screens, towel dispensers, soap dispensers, and other items as required.
• Install door and window assemblies and hardware, including window glass and screens.
• Install ceiling and flooring materials.
• Assist in coordinating building usage and special event set-up for internal school groups and community groups and assigns maintenance staff as needed.
• Assist in after hours and weekend emergency calls involving facility needs.
• Assist in responding to inquiries from district's employees and department heads regarding school district buildings and grounds activities.
• Operate light truck to transport furniture and equipment throughout district.
• Assist in inspecting buildings, equipment and premises for hazardous and violations of safety codes and regulations.
• Operate equipment and use tools following established safety procedures.
• Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.
• Correct unsafe conditions in the area and report any conditions that are not correctable to the supervisor immediately.
• Maintain tools and equipment and perform preventive maintenance as required.
• Promote teamwork and interaction with fellow staff members.
• Other duties as assigned by administration.
