About the position

The General Maintenance position involves performing general maintenance and repair of building structures and their mechanical, electrical, and sanitary systems throughout the district, including all campuses, central office, and district-owned facilities. The role also includes assisting with the maintenance of grounds.

Responsibilities

  • Repair and maintenance of district facilities, including woodwork, electrical switches, fixtures, motors, plumbing fixtures, light bulbs, air filters, drainage systems, and broken glass.
  • Inspect building exterior and interior, playground equipment, and grounds; perform maintenance and minor repairs.
  • Detect and report major repairs needed on building structures and their systems, furniture, and equipment.
  • Complete repairs as requested on work orders.
  • Assist with mowing and detailing of district grounds.
  • Assist with relocation of furnishings, such as desks, tables, chairs, and file cabinets.
  • Move, install, assemble, and repair all school furniture and playground equipment as needed.
  • Hang pictures, mirrors, whiteboards, bulletin boards, projection screens, towel dispensers, and soap dispensers as requested.
  • Install door and window assemblies and hardware, including window glass and screens.
  • Install ceiling and flooring materials.
  • Operate light truck to transport furniture and equipment throughout the district.
  • Operate equipment and use tools following established safety procedures.
  • Correct unsafe conditions in the area and report any conditions that are not correctable to the supervisor immediately.
  • Maintain tools and equipment and perform preventive maintenance as required.
  • Inspect building for cleanliness and provide assistance to custodial department as needed.
  • Participate in faculty meetings and special events as assigned.
  • Provide maintenance services to all campuses, central office, and district-owned facilities as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • 1 year experience in general building maintenance preferred.
  • Clear and valid Texas driver's license.
  • Knowledge of basic construction and routine maintenance and repair procedures.
  • Ability to operate hand and power tools.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to communicate effectively (verbally).
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
