About the position

The General Manager (Business Operations Leader) will oversee the Transportation Business Center at Stantec, focusing on expanding the company's presence in the regional transportation market across multiple states. This role involves managing operations, financial performance, and staff engagement while ensuring high-quality service delivery and client satisfaction. The successful candidate will lead a team, integrate innovation into operations, and collaborate with other business leaders to achieve strategic goals.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Transportation Business Center in California, Washington, Hawaii, Alaska, and associated markets.
  • Ensure operational, financial, and technical excellence of the transportation practice.
  • Participate in project pursuits, marketing, and business development.
  • Review monthly financial statements and address any issues.
  • Monitor forecasting, backlog, work in progress, accounts receivable, and staff utilization.
  • Oversee risk management practices related to office matters.
  • Participate in the preparation of proposals and development of fee estimates.
  • Lead the annual budgeting process and oversee the business center budget.
  • Identify underperformance and develop improvement plans.
  • Ensure efficient resource management responsive to workloads.
  • Monitor health and safety performance within the business center.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Minimum of 15 years of related work experience, including leadership and financial management.
  • Demonstrated leadership and communication skills in managing large professional teams.
  • General understanding of the transportation marketplace in the relevant states.
  • Well-developed written communication skills for technical reports and proposals.
  • Proven ability to articulate vision and engage staff effectively.

  • Experience working within a consulting practice.
  • Relationships with existing transportation clients, consultants, and contractors.
  • Experience with conventional and alternate forms of project delivery.
