About the position

The General Manager (Business Operations Leader) will oversee the Transportation Business Center in multiple states, focusing on operational, financial, and technical excellence. This role is pivotal in leading the business center's growth, ensuring high performance, and maintaining a strong design and people-oriented culture. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing staffing, engaging employees, and integrating innovation into operations to achieve financial and quality objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Transportation Business Center in California, Washington, Hawaii, Alaska, and associated markets.
  • Ensure operational excellence and high performance across financial, business development, and employee performance metrics.
  • Review monthly financial statements and address any issues promptly.
  • Monitor forecasting, backlog, work in progress, accounts receivable, and staff utilization to identify and resolve issues.
  • Oversee risk management practices related to office matters, including employee relations.
  • Participate in proposal preparation and fee estimate development.
  • Lead the annual budgeting process and oversee the business center budget to achieve operating targets.
  • Identify underperformance against established targets and implement improvement plans.
  • Ensure efficient resource management responsive to available workloads.
  • Monitor health and safety performance within the business center.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Minimum of 15 years of related work experience, including leadership and financial management.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing large professional teams in an integrated design environment.
  • General understanding of the transportation marketplace in California, Washington, Hawaii, Alaska, and associated markets.
  • Strong written communication skills for technical reports, correspondence, and proposals.
  • Proven ability to articulate a vision and engage staff effectively.
