About the position

The General Manager of Distribution Center Operations is responsible for leading and directing the management team within a fast-paced distribution environment. This role focuses on operational excellence, safety, leadership, and teamwork, ensuring that operational plans are executed effectively and performance goals are met. The manager will foster a culture of safety, engage with teams to maximize productivity, and implement innovative approaches to optimize processes.

Responsibilities

  • Hires, trains, develops, motivates, and supports the distribution center salaried and hourly teams.
  • Develops and monitors production plans for the DC and ensures optimal staffing allocation.
  • Manages associates with a focus on safety practices to support a safe work environment.
  • Oversees the DC's P&L and collaborates with managers to maximize productivity and meet budget targets.
  • Establishes process improvement initiatives for operational efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Partners with senior leadership to identify and lead DC network projects.
  • Collaborates with operational leaders to standardize processes and support implementations.
  • Supports operational strategy to drive business goals for revenue and profitability.
  • Develops leaders capable of coaching and motivating associates to meet safety and service standards.
  • Ensures effective communication and teamwork among staff to achieve departmental objectives.
  • Monitors operational policies to ensure efficient processing of delivery orders and customer service excellence.
  • Develops and maintains inventory controls to prevent shrinkage and shortages.
  • Ensures effective communication across the business.
  • Manages multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

  • Four-year degree or equivalent experience.
  • 5 years' experience in inventory/operational tasks.
  • 5 years' management experience in a Distribution Center / Fulfillment Center environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability to engage and motivate others.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Strong reasoning, conflict-management, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with performance metrics, process improvement, and Lean thinking.
  • A working knowledge of OSHA and DOT regulations.
  • Willingness to learn and go above and beyond.
