About the position

The General Manager of Engineering at Panasonic Energy of North America (PENA) is responsible for overseeing the engineering function, focusing on the development and improvement of battery manufacturing processes. This role involves managing multiple teams, ensuring budget objectives are met, and driving the development of new processes to enhance production rates and quality while reducing costs. The position requires strong leadership skills and a commitment to sustainability and growth within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the engineering function and oversee the development and construction of battery manufacturing processes.
  • Supervise 20-70 employees in the Engineering Department, carrying out hiring, training, and performance appraisals.
  • Establish systems and standards to promote sustainability and growth in technical and organizational areas.
  • Determine and oversee budgeting objectives to ensure Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are achieved.
  • Design and plan layout for equipment to improve manufacturing processes on a commercial scale.
  • Lead the team in developing measurement and control systems for manufacturing processes based on data from experiments and pilot operations.
  • Determine effective arrangements of unit operations considering process requirements and safety hazards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, chemical engineering, materials engineering, or related discipline.
  • Minimum of 10+ years of engineering experience in manufacturing, product development, or design.
  • 7+ years of leadership experience in an engineering context.
  • Strong analytic and decision-making abilities with a focus on influencing team goals.
  • Self-motivated and resourceful, able to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, demonstrating servant leadership.
  • Technical expertise in battery making processes and products, with a data-driven approach.

Nice-to-haves

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Experience with electrochemistry and electrochemical analysis.
  • Familiarity with Six Sigma methodologies and tools.
  • Strong data analysis skills using JMP, Minitab, Python, or MATLAB.
  • Experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment (1M+ units per day).
