About the position

The General Manager at Builders FirstSource is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the location's operations to maximize sales and profits. This includes managing sales, operations, production, delivery, purchasing, and inventory control. The role requires strong leadership skills to motivate employees, enforce company policies, and ensure compliance with safety regulations. The General Manager will also be involved in budgeting, staffing, and strategic planning to enhance the financial performance of the location.

Responsibilities

  • Manage overall sales (professional and retail), operations, production, delivery, purchasing, and inventory control of the location.
  • Oversee daily operations and ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Develop and implement inventory control programs to meet location inventory levels and turns.
  • Recruit, hire, and train staff while creating measures to reduce employee turnover.
  • Motivate employees and maintain a productive workforce, training successor management.
  • Review and approve wage and salary increases, establishing objectives and performance measures.
  • Recommend capital improvements based on demand forecasts and equipment efficiency.
  • Institute a cost-effective vehicle and equipment maintenance program.
  • Report obsolete equipment/facilities and submit recommendations for replacements or improvements.
  • Support and reinforce company safety initiatives to ensure compliance with OSHA and DOT requirements.
  • Communicate and enforce company policies and procedures, including Sarbanes-Oxley requirements.
  • Act as a liaison between employees and management to foster a healthy work environment.
  • Obtain feedback on customer satisfaction and work towards improving it.
  • Responsible for budget accountability and reporting related to financial goals.
  • Establish standard costs, operating budgets, and acceptable inventory levels.
  • Monitor expenses and create new methods to improve financial performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university.
  • Four years of related managerial experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Prior experience in the building materials industry is required.
