About the position

The General Manager I (GM) position at HMSHost is responsible for managing a Quick Service Restaurant (QSR) or a small cluster of restaurants, ensuring high operational and financial standards are met. The GM oversees staffing, training, and daily operations, while also being accountable for the restaurant's profitability and employee engagement. This role requires strong leadership skills and the ability to make strategic decisions to drive the success of the restaurant.

Responsibilities

  • Open and close the restaurant, ensuring all procedures are followed for a smooth operation.
  • Deploy staff and resources effectively to maximize profitability and accept P&L responsibility.
  • Provide consistent support, coaching, and encouragement to restaurant staff to achieve business goals.
  • Conduct interviews and make hiring, termination, and promotion decisions for associates.
  • Promote HMSHost as an employer of choice within the local community.
  • Ensure compliance with onboarding and offboarding processes for all restaurant associates.
  • Monitor financial and operational data to track progress towards unit goals and assign tasks accordingly.
  • Recognize and reward restaurant staff for their contributions and performance.
  • Ensure product availability and oversee inventory management and vendor relations.
  • Conduct training and development activities for restaurant associates to enhance their skills and knowledge.
  • Implement marketing programs and drive revenue through promotional activities.
  • Maintain compliance with health and safety standards and train staff on these protocols.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of restaurant P&L management experience.
  • 5-7 years of overall working restaurant experience in similar roles.
  • Demonstrated skills in team management, delegation, and issue resolution.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Knowledge of HMSHost policies, products, and operational standards.

Nice-to-haves

  • Graduation from a Food Service Management or Culinary program may substitute for some experience requirements.
