About the position

The General Manager II is responsible for the comprehensive planning, direction, coordination, and implementation of all warehouse policies and procedures within the warehouse operation. This role is pivotal in ensuring that the facility operates in alignment with Kenco's Guiding Principles and utilizes the Kenco Operating System (KOS / Shingo) methodology to achieve optimal efficiency and economic operations. The General Manager II will focus on maximizing profits while overseeing various operational aspects through delegation to subordinates as necessary. Key functions of this position include leading site management and personnel to ensure compliance with established operating systems, corporate policies, and standard operating procedures. The General Manager II will maintain oversight of all safety, operational, quality, financial, legal, and regulatory functions executed on-site. Additionally, the role involves developing long-term planning and strategic initiatives to ensure the site’s continued success and a satisfactory relationship with customers. The General Manager II is also responsible for site metrics associated with Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), Business Improvement Plans, Efficiency Programs, and Profit and Loss (P&L) indices. This includes data analysis to develop reports for interpretation and communication with both customers and site personnel. Effective communication and feedback mechanisms for site and customer relations are essential, including management reviews. Coaching and mentoring site management and personnel is a critical aspect of this role, aimed at building bench strength to ensure the sustainability of the business and facility. The General Manager II will support a healthy and effective “Lean Culture” by participating in and leading initiatives such as 5S, Gemba walks, A3's, Kaizen events, and Employee Suggestion Boards to promote continuous improvement for the benefit of customers. Continuous analysis of operations is necessary to identify and implement improvements that ensure cross-functional operating efficiencies in the warehouse, including throughput information, capacity planning, and financial data analysis. Building strong relationships with customers and understanding their strategic goals to translate them into site-specific objectives is also a key responsibility.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Business, or a related field required.
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in a distribution center or warehouse environment required.
  • Prior experience leading a team of salary and hourly associates with strong people management skills.
  • Experience with labor/workforce management systems (e.g., SAP, Red Prairie, High Jump) highly desired.
  • Six Sigma Black Belt or Green Belt preferred but not required.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-tasking environment under stress and pressure.
  • Highly proficient in necessary computer applications (e.g., Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Familiarity with advanced labor/workforce management systems.
