About the position

The General Manager in Lumber and Building Materials is responsible for overseeing the daily operations and strategic planning of the business. This role is crucial in driving company culture and values, ensuring high performance and efficiency among team members while maintaining exceptional service quality. The General Manager will lead the Senior Leadership team and must possess strong communication skills to effectively manage and hold team members accountable.

Responsibilities

• Lead, manage, and hold department accountabilities
• Develop and execute business plan including sales and GM dollars to budget
• Manage capital expenditure planning and management
• Oversee inventory management including inventory turns, cycle counts, and replenishment
• Control operations costs including equipment and labor costs, truck turnaround time, and equipment utilization
• Promote a safety culture within the organization

Requirements

• Strong business acumen and leadership experience
• Experience in managing multiple areas of a company
• Background in lean principles
• Experience in building materials, lumber yard, or residential building outside sales
