About the position

The General Manager, Marketing & Communications for the Americas at Wärtsilä Energy is responsible for leading the marketing and communications team across the region, focusing on building brand awareness and positioning Wärtsilä as a thought leader in energy transition. This role involves creating demand for Wärtsilä's solutions, managing marketing strategies, and collaborating with key stakeholders to align marketing efforts with business priorities. The position requires a strong understanding of local energy markets and the ability to manage cross-cultural teams effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Americas marketing and communications team with members in the US, Brazil, and Mexico.
  • Build a strong understanding of local energy markets and competitive landscape.
  • Create demand for Wärtsilä Energy's solutions by educating target customers and stakeholders.
  • Develop and execute yearly marketing and communications plans for the Americas regions.
  • Define value propositions and key messages for customer segments.
  • Drive proactive media work with local communications agencies.
  • Create thought leadership content with local thought leaders.
  • Produce and localize marketing and sales assets for various channels.
  • Run targeted digital marketing campaigns including social media and paid advertisements.
  • Organize Wärtsilä events and participate in key industry conferences.
  • Manage communications related to local reputation issues and crisis situations.
  • Manage the marketing and communications budget and report on progress to stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with key business stakeholders to ensure alignment of marketing plans.
  • Contribute to the overall Energy marketing and communications strategy.
  • Drive joint marketing and communications projects across the global team.
  • Set up and manage a network of external partners for local projects.

Requirements

  • A master's or bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, or a relevant field.
  • 7-10 years of experience in marketing, communications, or related work.
  • Successful track record in international B2B marketing and media relations.
  • Experience in the energy industry is an asset.
  • Strong interest in the energy transition and sector in the Americas.
  • Experience managing cross-cultural teams and leading cross-regional projects.
  • Experience in an international matrix organization with excellent stakeholder management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability for conceptual thinking and strong planning skills.
  • Experience in managing a partner network of marketing agencies and freelancers.
  • Excellent leadership and collaboration skills with a can-do attitude.
  • Business-oriented mindset with a willingness to learn and improve.
  • Fluency in English with strong communication skills; knowledge of Spanish and/or Portuguese is an asset.
