About the position

The General Manager at Shelby's Rooftop Bar is responsible for overseeing all food and beverage operations, ensuring customer satisfaction and employee engagement to maximize sales and revenue. This role involves managing staff, forecasting and planning orders, and collaborating with the entertainment team to enhance the bar's appeal to locals and tourists. The General Manager will also serve as a sales and marketing ambassador, focusing on training staff and maintaining high standards of service and product knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and organize beverage systems setup, including storage and display options.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations to ensure the bar runs smoothly.
  • Maintain a safe and enjoyable environment for customers.
  • Create effective staff schedules and resolve conflicts during peak hours.
  • Hire and train new beverage staff members.
  • Communicate company policies, standards, and procedures to staff.
  • Ensure licenses are updated and comply with current legislation.
  • Ensure staff follows local requirements and alcohol distribution regulations.
  • Set and enforce quality and safety controls.
  • Plan and participate in promotional events.
  • Promote compliance with fire, health, safety, and hygiene standards.
  • Oversee cash-up procedures and ensure paperwork is complete.
  • Ensure adherence to cash management procedures.
  • Manage ordering and inventory control of beverages.
  • Ensure stock control procedures are followed.
  • Diffuse tense situations between patrons or staff to prevent safety or legal issues.
  • Monitor and order supplies, liaising with suppliers and sales representatives.
  • Confirm procurement of supplies on the best possible terms.
  • Check deliveries for accuracy and proper documentation.
  • Ensure stock is rotated and stored to reduce wastage.
  • Work shifts as needed, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Engage with customers to enhance their dining experience.

Requirements

  • High school diploma.
  • 5-6 years of bar/beverage management experience in a high-paced upscale bar.
  • Strong understanding of business management and accounting principles.
  • Excellent computer, problem-solving, and customer service skills.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Mixologist education.
  • Ability to diffuse tense situations and resolve conflicts.
  • Quick decision-making and problem-solving skills with high stress tolerance.
  • Willingness to work during peak hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to effectively delegate responsibilities and maximize resources.
  • Decisiveness.
  • Ability to walk and stand for 8-10 hours and occasionally carry heavy items in a fast-paced environment.
