About the position

The General Manager at Levain Bakery in Venice Beach is responsible for overseeing all aspects of bakery and production operations. This role includes managing production and inventory, maintaining health and safety standards, and ensuring a positive customer experience. The GM leads by example, driving sales and productivity while fostering a high morale among team members. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in the food and beverage industry, strong project management skills, and a passion for people development.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day operations of bakery and production, including maintaining DOH standards and creating the weekly schedule.
  • Manage COGS by monitoring and adjusting PARS, overseeing on-time ordering practices, and ensuring accurate inventories.
  • Perform every role within the bakery and production to assess and achieve optimal performance.
  • Own 4-wall P&L; partnering with operations to identify liabilities and opportunities to achieve financial goals.
  • Coach, develop, and train team members, addressing areas for growth and fostering high-potential talent.
  • Cultivate an inclusive culture and positive work environment for all team members.
  • Model superior customer service, providing a warm and welcoming environment for every customer.
  • Create a succession plan to prepare bakery and production for growth and labor changes.
  • Partner with various departments on larger initiatives and projects related to operational procedures, forecasting, and recruitment.
  • Strategize and recommend changes to hit sales goals, increase foot traffic, manage costs, and improve vendor relationships.

Requirements

  • 4-5 years of prior managerial experience in a food/beverage/retail environment.
  • Experience working in and managing a food production environment.
  • Food Protection Certificate required.
  • Ability to lift/push 10-50 pounds, including overhead.
  • Ability to walk/stand on your feet for a 10-hour shift and walk up and down stairs.
  • Work an average of 50 hours weekly.
  • Read and communicate in English, including on the phone and in writing.
  • Utilize basic computer skills (Email, Microsoft Word).
  • Passion for both the people and business sides of the food industry.
  • Adaptability and flexibility to troubleshoot issues in a dynamic environment.
  • Eye for detail to break down larger goals into day-to-day action.
  • Collaborative spirit and commitment to Levain's core values.
