About the position

The General Manager at Courtyard West Des Moines is responsible for overseeing all hotel operations, ensuring guest satisfaction, and managing staff effectively. This role requires a balance between profitability and guest service, with a focus on leadership, strategic planning, and maintaining high standards of service. The GM acts as an ambassador for the brand, driving improvements in guest experience and staff development.

Responsibilities

  • Model and exemplify a friendly, attentive, and service-oriented demeanor in all interactions with guests and hotel staff.
  • Maintain open communication between hotel staff leaders and develop a high-quality team aligned with guest service expectations.
  • Accurately manage financials, P&L, and payroll to ensure profitability.
  • Ensure compliance with local and state licensing and permit requirements.
  • Maintain security and safety systems within the property, ensuring proper inspections and maintenance are conducted.
  • Drive property-wide improvements in staff training and development to enhance guest services and encourage repeat visits.
  • Promote open lines of communication with managers, employees, and other departments.
  • Effectively communicate ideas, development goals, and tasks to team members, ensuring timely follow-up on delegated tasks.
  • Proactively identify and resolve issues within the property to prevent disruptions in hotel functions.
  • Analyze data from multiple sources to develop beneficial business solutions.
  • Address concerns and issues from hotel guests and staff in a professional manner.
  • Delegate tasks effectively to the most qualified staff members.
  • Achieve financial results in line with budgeted objectives.

Requirements

  • 3+ years in a General Manager role required
  • 1+ year brand experience required
  • Select Service hotel experience preferred
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in Hotel Management, Business Admin, or similar field preferred
  • Strong management skills of large teams
  • Developed time management skills
  • Proven ability to drive Guest Service Scores and profitability
  • Ability to prioritize multiple competing tasks.
