About the position

The General Manager at McDonald's is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a restaurant owned and operated by an independent franchisee. This position is not affiliated with McDonald's USA, which means that the franchisee is the sole employer and is responsible for all employment matters, including hiring, firing, and employee supervision. The General Manager is tasked with ensuring that the restaurant meets McDonald's high standards of Quality, Service, and Cleanliness, which are critical to the brand's reputation and customer satisfaction. This role requires a strong focus on profitability and operational excellence, as the General Manager works closely with their leader to set and achieve the restaurant's goals. In this role, the General Manager leads a team of Department Managers, each responsible for specific areas within the restaurant. This involves helping these managers set their own goals, monitoring their progress, and providing coaching and direction to enhance their departments. By fostering a collaborative and supportive environment, the General Manager plays a crucial role in improving overall restaurant performance. Additionally, the General Manager may be involved in hiring and developing Department and Shift Managers, ensuring that the restaurant has a capable team to drive future success. Ideal candidates for this position should have prior experience as a General Manager in high-volume locations, preferably within the quick service restaurant industry, although experience in hospitality or retail may also be considered. The role requires individuals who are at least 18 years old and possess strong leadership skills, a commitment to customer service, and the ability to motivate and develop a team.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations of the restaurant to ensure profitability and adherence to McDonald's standards.
  • Lead and manage a team of Department Managers, providing coaching and support to achieve departmental goals.
  • Set restaurant goals in collaboration with leadership and create actionable plans to meet those goals.
  • Monitor and evaluate the performance of Department Managers and provide feedback for improvement.
  • Hire and develop Department and Shift Managers to build a strong leadership team for the restaurant.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  • Foster a positive work culture that encourages teamwork and high performance.

Requirements

  • Previous experience as a General Manager in a high-volume restaurant setting.
  • Strong background in quick service restaurants, hospitality, or retail.
  • Ability to lead and motivate a team effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in training and developing staff.
  • Knowledge of financial management and budgeting in a restaurant context.
